Sahar Nicolette

Subvrt Mag Editor Sahar Nicolette On the Lack of Representation in Media & Their Daily Skincare Routine

Even at the inception of Blunt Skincare, we knew it was just as important to educate consumers and tell stories as it was to sell innovative CBD skincare. That's why we were so stoked to speak with Subvrt Mag about cannabis skincare and the other key ingredients we use in our face oils. In fact, we were so impressed with the work of Subvrt, we wanted to get to know its editor in chief, Sahar Nicolette, a little better.

This is just the beginning of our interviews with you, the Blunt community. We want to hear from you about how you use cannabis and the blunt ways you get through life. And of course, how you get your skin so good. Get started by reading all about Sahar, below.

How did Subvrt come about?

"I started Subvrt about 4 years ago in Australia after discovering there was a lack in representation for minorities in the fashion world. POC, the LGBTQIA+ community, women, disabled people, people that don't fit into society's mainstream definition of beauty, and many more, lack visibility. It was my goal to help change this."

What was your first issue like?

"Our first print issue was created in response to gay marriage being illegal in Australia, in a protest to a long overdue need for reform and change. A group of us dressed up in marriage attire and held an impromptu queer 'wedding' outside a church in Sydney city. It drew a lot of attention from spectators and the church clergy itself (both positive and negative), but it was worth it. Gay marriage was legalized a year or so later.

Who is the Subvrt reader?

"As the years have passed we have expanded from only being in print form to growing our digital presence, where we feature fashion editorials, music releases, brand reviews, interviews, personal essays, think pieces, listicles, and much more. But the core focus have remained the same, focusing on uplifting underrepresented communities through art, words and mixed media.

We also enjoy partnering with brands that reflect the values that are at the core of Subvrt's heart. We are still a very small, self-funded publication and hope to grow to be something larger, a worldwide movement shared and supported by those who are passionate about our vision."

What are your must-have skincare products?

"I used to have really bad acne in my late teens/early twenties. Even now when I am extremely stressed I am prone to a break out. So, I am very conscious about what I put on my skin. As a face wash, I love Caudalie Vinopure Purifying Gel Cleanser. It's great for oily skin and helps to prevent breakouts with natural salicylic acid. As a moisturizer, I need something that is going to keep my skin hydrated throughout the day, while keeping oil in check, so I use Murad Oil and Pore Control Mattifier Broad Spectrum SPF 45.

"At night, I use Blunt Isolate Pure CBD Balancing Face Oil, as it's very soothing and I find it helps hydrate my skin for the next morning."

Do you use any cannabis?

"Apart from Blunt CBD Oil, I also use Source Pure CBD tablets to help me sleep. I've noticed since I started taking them I have been having very vivid dreams that I remember quite clearly. I am also a fan of rolling my own joints, otherwise I love pre-rolls from Besito."
